Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid was the great catwalk of Spanish fashion, a spectacular event, which was held in April and was organised by IFEMA. Its aim was to promote the uniquenessof Spanish fashion by creating new styles and trends. All features were displayed on an international platform. Many fashion brands, designers and models who participated in came from all over the world. Big and small fashion companies were connected to a common goal, to promote the Spanish fashion presence worldwide. So, what are we going to wear next season? Which fabrics did the designers suggest? These are some of the questions one could ask oneself. We saw a variety that included sheer fabrics that flow and give movement as well as tulles, organza lace and silks. Also, dresses, skirts and lingerie all manufactured «Made in Spain».
Andres Sarda, Angel Schlesser and Maite by Lola Casademunt added to their designs a lot of volume on the catwalk. The volume on skirts and long dresses were presented as oversized coloured pieces. The combination that was suggested wasthe mixture of simplicity and the desire of the extraordinary. An example is sweaters or informal garments which were combined with tulle and silk skirts as Custo Barcelona and Maison Mesa did, or overlays and loose patterns as Brain & Beast showcased. Optimism has to be the main characteristic of this season depicted by colorful combinations. Agatha Ruiz De La Prada and Ulises Merida took to the catwalk some of the most colourful collections of this edition. The message was clear. We need to shine and leave the negativity behind us. Metallic and gliters made their appearence through Maison Mesa, Fernando Claro and Maya Hansen. There was also a dose of energy through a trip to the eighties full of glamour by Custo Barcelona. Everybody misses the brightness of eighties!!
All the above elements made this fashion week unprecedented and incomparable in order to travel the Spanish culture and spirit all over the world. Fall – Winter 2021 has to be a more optimistic period for everybody and surely fashion has the key to succeed it.
Like any other previous editions, the final day was devoted to emergingEGO designers, revealing what isgoing on in the renewal of Spanish fashion. The L’Oréal Paris Prize recognises the work behind each garment and each look as well as the talent of all the teams.
