Ο Γιάννης Σαρλάς γεννήθηκε το 1972 στον Πειραιά. Σπούδασε στο Λονδίνο Βιολογικές Επιστήμες κι εξειδικεύτηκε στην Αστροβιολογία. Συνέχισε με Μεταπτυχιακά στις Περιβαλλοντικές επιστήμες. Το 1994 συμμετέχει στο Προεδρείο της ΟΝΝΕΔ Λονδίνου, ιδρύοντας τον (ΣΕΦΛ).Το 2002 εντάσσεται στο ΛΑΟΣ αναλαμβάνοντας Πρόεδρος της Νεολαίας Πειραιά. Μεταξύ 2003-2008 συμβάλλει στην αναμόρφωση της πόλης του Πειραιά διατελώντας επιστημονικός σύμβουλος του Δημάρχου Πειραιά. Το 2005 επιτυγχάνει τη βράβευση της Ακτής Βοτσαλάκια με τον διεθνή τίτλο της Γαλάζιας Σημαίας για πρώτη φορά στην ιστορία της πόλης. Σε συνεργασία με την ΕΥΔΑΠ και το ΥΠΕΧΩΔΕ συνετέλεσε στην οριστική λύση της διαχείρισης της λυματολάσπης του Βιολογικού Καθαρισμού της Ψυττάλειας. Το 2009 αναλαμβάνει επιστημονικός συνεργάτης του ΟΤΕΚ και το 2013 επιστημονικός σύμβουλος του Υπουργού Υγείας.   Είναι Αντιπρόεδρος του Συνδέσμου Προστασίας Περιβάλλοντος Πειραιά και μέλος του Πανευρωπαϊκού Οργανισμού Energie – Cites, ο οποίος διαχειρίζεται ζητήματα ενεργειακής πολιτικής με γνώμονα την βελτίωση της ποιότητας του αστικού περιβάλλοντος.

Ερασιτέχνης ερευνητής, διενεργεί κατά καιρούς ανεξάρτητες περιηγήσεις στο ανεξήγητο, ενώ έχει συγγράψει άρθρα για τα περιοδικά «Ελληνική Αγωγή» και «Τρίτο Μάτι». Συμμετέχει σε ομιλίες κι εκδηλώσεις σχετικά με την αναγκαιότητα της προστασίας του φυσικού περιβάλλοντος κι υπήρξε επιστημονικός συνεργάτης της ηλεκτρονικής εφημερίδας triklopodia.gr, ενώ αρθρογραφεί στον τοπικό Πειραϊκό Τύπο κι…αλλαχού! Εμφανίζει…εγγενή αδυναμία για το αρμόνιο και το κολύμπι!

Yiannis Sarlas was born in 1972 in Piraeus. He studied Biological Sciences in London, specializing in Astrobiology, and went on to complete his postgraduate studies in Environmental Sciences. In 1994, he joined the executive committee of ONNED London, founding the Association of Greek Students in London (SEFL). In 2002, he joined the LAOS political party, serving as the President of its Piraeus Youth Wing.

Between 2003 and 2008, he contributed significantly to the redevelopment of the city of Piraeus while serving as the Scientific Advisor to the Mayor of Piraeus. In 2005, he successfully secured the international Blue Flag certification for Votsalakia Beach for the first time in the city’s history. In collaboration with EYDAP and the Ministry for the Environment, Physical Planning and Public Works (YPECHODE), he played a key role in implementing a definitive solution for the sewage sludge management at the Psyttalia Wastewater Treatment Plant.

In 2009, he took on the role of Scientific Associate for OTEK (Organization for Tourism Education and Training), and in 2013, he served as the Scientific Advisor to the Minister of Health. He is currently the Vice President of the Piraeus Environmental Protection Association and a member of the European association of local authorities Energie-Cités, which manages energy policy issues aimed at improving the urban environment.

  • Independent Research: As an amateur researcher, he periodically conducts independent explorations into the unexplained.
  • Publications & Columns: He has authored articles for magazines such as “Elliniki Agogi” and “Trito Mati”. He has served as a scientific associate for the electronic newspaper triklopodia.gr, and regularly contributes articles to the local Piraeus press and other media outlets.
  • Advocacy: He actively participates in lectures and events highlighting the critical need for environmental protection.
  • Hobbies: He has an inherent fondness for playing the electronic keyboard (harmonium) and swimming.
